In October 2024, the Mojave Spaceport in California became the focal point for enthusiasts of RC Giant Scale racing. This thrilling event, hosted by Doug Killebrew, brought together RC hobbyists, racers, and spectators to witness high-speed, meticulously crafted aircraft compete in one of the most unique settings for such a competition.
The Mojave Spaceport, known for its association with space exploration and aviation innovation, provided the perfect backdrop for the event, offering a vast, open sky and a dedicated, world-class facility. Participants showcased a range of Giant Scale aircraft, many of which exceeded the size of typical RC airplanes. The race itself was a combination of skillful piloting and speed, with competitors pushing their aircraft to the limits.
What set this event apart from other RC racing competitions was the scale of the aircraft, mostly composite airframes and large gas engines to support the speed and stress of Pylon Racing. The event also fostered an environment of camaraderie—teams share with and support each other.

Spectators were treated to a rare blend of largescale aircraft and high-speed racing, making the Mojave Spaceport event a highlight for Giant Scale racing. The success of the event demonstrated the continuing popularity of the sport and its potential for future events.
