On the weekend of September 21 and 22, the Susquehanna Valley Modelers (SVM) held its annual fun-fly at the club field at the Danville, Pennsylvania, airport. The club enjoys a grass runway and a recently added solar power source.
The club’s membership embraces new members and community outreach programs. We visited on Saturday and enjoyed light wind down the runway, which afforded everyone a generous amount of stick time.
We met a young man by the name of Logan Turofski and his parents. Logan started flying a simulator at age 11, and, at 13, he is an accomplished pilot flying various warbirds. His parents attribute his flying abilities to the help that he received after joining the SVM. He has a solid passion for RC flying and very much enjoys warbirds from World War II to the current day.

On Saturday, September 28, AMA Marketing Director Mark Benson, District III Vice President (VP) Randy Adams, Associate Vice President (AVP) Mark Radcliff, and District III members Bryan Poling, Mike Eden, Roy Grimm, and Derek King, attended the Chuck Yeager Aviation Day at the Jackson County Airport in Millwood, West Virginia, at the invitation of Brig. Gen. Yeager’s widow, Victoria Yeager.
The event was hosted by the airport, Women in Aviation, 1st General Chuck Yeager Chapter, and local EAA Chapter 1336. The events during the day included a pancake breakfast, STE(A)M aviation activities, drone demonstrations and an introductory lesson, aviation career education, and we introduced many of the spectators to AMA for their first time.
The AMA Model Aviation Experience Sponsored by Wing trailer was on hand to give basic flight instruction and introductions to the aspects of model aviation. A flightline was set up at the airport for introductory flights. The AMA team flew more than 100 introductory flights with both young and old. Victoria even received a flight from Mark Radcliff.

This year, AMA will introduce information about how to promote and inform the public about model aviation with the hope of increasing our membership. Please pay attention to your email, your club website, and your district website for the details. How can you and your club help grow model aviation?
