February 2025 - District I

This report came from Mark Potter, president of the Kennebec Valley Model Aviators (KVMA). The club’s flying site, located in picturesque Sidney, Maine, accommodates nearly all types of model aircraft that fly from grass or asphalt runways.

It has a covered shelter with picnic tables, a battery charge station, setup stands, and a porta-potty. If you are ever up that way, they welcome AMA guest pilots to fly. Check out the club’s website at www.modelaviators.org. Mark wrote:

As I return to a full five-day work week, I want to share that 2024 will be my last year as KVMA president. I have enjoyed my time in this role and working with club officers and members. Together, we have accomplished more than I had anticipated, and I am confident that the club’s new president, Shawn Gibson, will achieve even more.

In 2024, KVMA hosted seven fly-ins, including contests, Combat, night flights, and drone events. We held two successful swap meets.

Additionally, a KVMA booth was set up at the Sky Streakers’ 50th Anniversary Fly-In, featuring various swap meet items, static models, a flight simulator, and Flite Test gliders to engage young attendees. We also conducted STEM kit-building events for kids and are proud to have raised $500 for charity through a bottle drive.

Thanks for this report, Mark, and all of the KVMA members for being an outstanding club promoting STEM/STEAM initiatives, aeromodeling events, and community involvement.
