Peter Goldsmith: I Am The AMA

JAY SMITH: How did you become involved with model aviation? PETER GOLDSMITH: My dad and I built a small rubber model when I was 4 years old. I have been hooked ever since. I’ve always been fascinated with flight. That’s just the way God made me. My dad took me to the local flying club every Saturday. I didn’t have a model; I just stood at the fence for hours and watched. JS: How has model aviation impacted your life and/or career? PG: It’s been fantastic! Everything good in my life has come from this hobby— friends, family, work, etc.—everything. It’s a really good, educational hobby. JS: What disciplines of modeling do you currently participate in? PG: Pretty much all of them. I’m not racing as much as I used to, but I do practically everything else. JS: What other hobbies do you have? PG: I like motor racing and, of course, the cars. I’m a car guy for sure. My friend and I built a Shelby Cobra two years ago, and the next project will be a Daytona Coupe. I love tinkering on cars, especially the engines. JS: Who or what has influenced you the most? PG: My dad. Most of my wisdom and character is because of my dad. JS: What advice would you give to someone looking to compete at Top Gun? PG: Go there in a teachable posture, have an open mind and open heart, learn all you can, talk to as many of the veterans as you can, and ask questions.
